Giving tough feedback is never easy; it’s a moment that tests a leader’s courage and
empathy. I distinctly recall an incident where, as a manager, I had to address a serious
breach of policy that ultimately led to an employee's termination.
My "brain was wracked," and I experienced insomnia leading up to the conversation. My
HR team prepared me for every possible reaction, but what truly guided me was a
deep-seated belief in conducting the act with "a clear conscience, free of guilt, and a
heart overflowing with blessings". I focused on the facts, expressed regret, and offered
personal support, ensuring the organization's integrity while humanizing a difficult
situation.
It was a painful, yet necessary, lesson in delivering hard truths with compassion and
integrity.
